A Problem You’ve Already Faced
- Leak at the tube-to-valve or tube-to-cylinder connection — a poor fitting won’t hold pressure; the system bleeds air at the worst possible point.
- The tube pulls out under pressure — the collet of a cheap copy doesn’t grip the tube firmly: at 8–10 bar the joint “pops”.
- Wrong thread ordered — G1/4″ (BSP, parallel) ordered instead of R1/4″ (taper, 55°) — the fitting won’t screw in fully or leaks.
- Wrong diameter ordered — PC 06-02 (6 mm) bought instead of PC 08-02 (8 mm) — the tube is loose in the collet.
- Part not available locally — a small fitting delays the installation of an entire pneumatic line due to a late delivery.
One wrong fitting stops the entire pneumatic line installation. Correct selection by three parameters — tube diameter, thread type and thread size — solves the problem once and for all.
What Is the SHPI PC 08-02 Fitting
The SHPI PC 08-02 is a straight push-in fitting from the PC series by Taiwanese manufacturer SHPI (Shan Hua Plastic Industrial Co., 40+ years in the industry, ISO 9001, RoHS). Connection principle: push-in (One-Touch) — the tube is inserted into the fitting until it clicks, without tools, and is held by a stainless steel collet with a toothed grip. To disconnect, press the release sleeve and pull the tube.
Part number breakdown — PC 08-02:
- PC — fitting type: straight Push-in Connector, tube on one side, thread on the other;
- 08 — pneumatic tube outside diameter in mm (fits ⌀8 mm tube);
- 02 — thread code: R1/4″ (taper pipe thread 55°, ISO 7-1, 19 TPI, pitch 1.337 mm).
The built-in PTFE seal on the threaded section provides an airtight joint without additional PTFE tape — the fitting is installation-ready straight from the packaging. Rated for vacuum service (down to −100 kPa).

💡 Expert tip: R1/4″ (taper) and G1/4″ (parallel BSP) are different thread standards. R1/4″ seals on the thread taper and needs no PTFE tape; G1/4″ seals on a face gasket or tape. Before ordering, verify the thread type in your valve or cylinder: taper thread narrows toward the end; parallel thread is the same diameter throughout.

Expert Opinion
“The most common mistake when ordering fittings is the confusion between R1/4″ and G1/4″. They look similar, both marked ‘1/4’, but the thread profile is different: R (taper) seals on the thread itself; G (parallel) seals on a face gasket. If you screw an R fitting into a G port it will go in but will leak; the reverse combination won’t tighten fully. Always verify before ordering: look at the mating port — the taper on the thread is visible to the naked eye. For standard pneumatic valves 4V, 3V, solenoid valves — almost always G1/4″; for connections with ISO pipe fittings — R1/4″.”

How to Choose the Right Push-In Fitting: 5-Step Algorithm
- Measure the tube outside diameter — with a calliper: 8 mm → PC 08-XX; 6 mm → PC 06-XX; 10 mm → PC 10-XX.
- Identify the thread type in the mating port — taper (narrows toward the end) = R; parallel (same diameter throughout) = G.
- Identify the thread size — thread OD ≈13.2 mm = 1/4″.
- Choose the fitting series — PC (straight); PL (elbow 90°); PT (tee); PB (tee tube-thread-tube).
- Check pressure and temperature — up to 10 bar and 60 °C — SHPI PC is suitable.
FAQ
❓ What is the difference between SHPI PC 08-02 and PC 08-G02?
Part number PC 08-02 has an R1/4″ taper thread (55°) — seals on the thread taper, no PTFE tape required. Part number PC 08-G02 has a G1/4″ parallel thread (BSP) — requires a face gasket or tape seal. Both are for 8 mm tube but are not interchangeable.
❓ Can the SHPI PC 08-02 be used in vacuum systems?
Yes. The fitting is rated for vacuum down to −100 kPa. The built-in PTFE seal provides an airtight joint under both positive pressure (up to 10 bar) and vacuum. This makes the PC 08-02 particularly convenient for systems alternating between pressure and vacuum modes without changing fittings.
❓ Is PTFE tape needed when installing the PC 08-02?
No. The fitting has a built-in PTFE seal on the threaded section and is ready for installation without additional tape. The taper R1/4″ thread self-seals as it is tightened.
Take the Next Step Right Now
