Compressor Check Valve 1/2″ × 3/8″ — Brass, 1.3–1.8 kW

The 1/2″ × 3/8″ is a reducing check valve for small piston compressors rated 1.3–1.8 kW. Inlet: 3/8″ (from the compressor block); outlet: 1/2″ (into the receiver). High-quality brass body, maximum pressure 10 bar. Used when the block has a 3/8″ outlet port and the receiver has a 1/2″ inlet port. Description

Why a Reducing 1/2″ × 3/8″ Valve Is Needed

Small compressors rated 1.3–1.8 kW often have a port size mismatch in the discharge line: the piston block has a 3/8″ outlet port, while the receiver has a standard 1/2″ inlet port. A standard single-size valve cannot be installed in such a system without an additional adapter.

The 1/2″×3/8″ valve combines the check valve and adapter functions in a single body: it passes air in one direction only and simultaneously transitions between two different port sizes without reducing the effective flow area.

Technical Specifications

Parameter Value
Inlet port (from block) 3/8″ female (BSP, ≈16 mm)
Outlet port (into receiver) 1/2″ male (BSP, ≈21 mm)
Body material High-quality brass
Maximum pressure 10 bar
Power compatibility 1.3–1.8 kW
Function Check valve + 3/8″→1/2″ reducer
Flow direction Strictly from block to receiver
Construction Serviceable

💡 Expert tip: before ordering, verify the port direction: the 3/8″ inlet goes to the block (smaller diameter), the 1/2″ outlet goes into the receiver (larger diameter). If your situation is reversed (block 1/2″, receiver 3/8″) — this is a different part number. Send a photo and we will identify the correct valve.

Expert Opinion

“The 1/2″×3/8″ valve is the most frequently confused part number in our range. Customers sometimes order it for 2.2 kW compressors, but it is rated for 1.3–1.8 kW. At 2.2 kW, the airflow through the 3/8″ port creates resistance — the block overheats. If your compressor is rated 2.2 kW — you need the 1/2″×19 mm or 1/2″×1/2″ valve. Not sure? Call us and we identify the right valve in a minute.”

FAQ

❓ Can the 1/2″×3/8″ valve be used on a 2.2 kW compressor?

Not recommended. This valve is sized for the airflow of 1.3–1.8 kW compressors. At 2.2 kW the 3/8″ port creates excessive hydraulic resistance — the block overheats and the valve plates wear out prematurely. For 2.2–3 kW compressors use the 1/2″×19 mm or 1/2″×1/2″ valve.

❓ What if my layout is reversed — block 1/2″, receiver 3/8″?

That is a different part number — the 3/8″×1/2″ valve (inlet 1/2″ female, outlet 3/8″ male). Confirm at the time of order or send a photo of your compressor — we select the correct reducing valve.

❓ Is PTFE tape needed?

Yes, on both threaded ends. G BSP parallel thread does not self-seal. 2–3 wraps of PTFE tape in the thread direction. Tightening torque: 3/8″ end — 20–25 N·m; 1/2″ end — 25–30 N·m.
