Valve Plate 57×11 mm for Compressor 2080, 2090

Dimensions: 57 mm × 11 mm × 0.35 mm Compatibility: compressors 2080, 2090 Equipment type: reciprocating (piston) compressors Material: spring steel (valve strip) Position in the head: inlet and/or discharge valve

The 57×11 mm valve plate is a spring-steel elastic component of the valve assembly in reciprocating compressors 2080 and 2090. It acts as a spring-loaded shut-off element for the inlet or discharge valve. At every stroke the plate flexes under gas pressure to open or close the port — which is why it is classified as a consumable part with a limited service life that requires scheduled replacement.

Description

Design Features and Role in Compressor Operation

The valve plate is the most heavily loaded consumable in the valve block. During one hour of operation of a 2080 or 2090 compressor, the plate completes tens of thousands of flexing cycles. Three parameters of the part are critical simultaneously:

  • Length 57 mm and width 11 mm — determine the sealing area of the valve port and the opening force. A deviation of even 0.5 mm leads to incomplete sealing or jamming
  • Thickness 0.35 mm — defines the stiffness of the plate and therefore the valve opening pressure. A thicker plate will raise the opening pressure and reduce output; a thinner one will fracture rapidly due to fatigue failure
  • Steel grade — plates are manufactured from specialist valve strip with a high fatigue strength limit; using ordinary spring steel reduces service life by a factor of 3–5

Compatibility: Which Compressors Does It Fit

Compressor model Drive type Pressure, bar No. of plates per head
2080 Direct / belt-driven 8 / 10 confirmed by configuration
2090 Direct / belt-driven 8 / 10 confirmed by configuration

Before ordering, check with an Acvatron engineer for the exact number of plates required for your configuration — using the compressor serial number or a photo of the valve block: +373 22 503-580.

Signs of Valve Plate Wear: When to Replace

The plate fails in two ways — gradual fatigue wear or sudden fracture. Both have characteristic symptoms:

  • Drop in discharge pressure of 15–25% below the rated value — the plate is no longer sealing the port fully
  • Longer pressure build-up time — the 2080 or 2090 compressor runs longer than usual before the pressure switch cuts it off
  • Overheating of the cylinder head — hot compressed air is blowing back through the damaged plate
  • Metallic rattling in the valve block — a broken fragment of the plate is striking the seat or retainer
  • Sudden pressure loss during operation — indicates complete fracture of the plate

Critical: a fragment of valve plate that enters the cylinder will destroy the piston and cylinder liner within minutes. If a metallic rattle is heard — stop the compressor immediately and disassemble the head.

Valve Plate Replacement Procedure for Compressors 2080 / 2090

1. Preparation

Disconnect the compressor from the power supply, bleed the receiver down to zero pressure, and allow the cylinder head to cool.

2. Remove the valve cover

Undo the cover bolts in a cross pattern, evenly. Remove the cover, springs, retainers, and old plates. Lay all parts out in order — the correct sequence matters when reassembling.

3. Inspect the valve seat and pocket

Examine the valve seat surface. If wear depth exceeds 0.1 mm — lap with grinding paste of 14–28 µm grit. Deep scoring is grounds for replacing the valve plate assembly.

4. Install new plates

Fit the 57×11×0.35 mm plates strictly on the locating pins or orientation marks. No misalignment or offset is permitted — the plate must lie flat along its entire length. Do not apply lubricant to the plate’s working surface.

5. Reassembly and check

Reassemble the head with new gaskets and tighten the cover bolts to the torque specified in the compressor documentation. Run unloaded for 20 minutes — check pressure and head temperature.

Associated Parts for Full Valve Block Service on 2080/2090

When replacing the plates, we recommend renewing the entire valve kit at the same time:

  • Valve plates 57×11×0.35 mm — this item (full kit for all valves in the head)
  • Valve block gasket — seal between the valve plate assembly and the cylinder head
  • Valve springs — after more than 3,000 operating hours, springs lose their tension
  • Piston rings — if oil consumption or blow-by into the crankcase is also observed

Expert Opinion

Vitaly Boluchevsky, Lead Engineer at Acvatron.md:

“The valve plate is the cheapest consumable in a compressor and at the same time the most critical in terms of the consequences of failure. On the 2080 and 2090 compressors I recommend replacing the plates preventively every 2,000–3,000 operating hours, without waiting for symptoms. The cost of a plate kit is incomparably lower than the cost of repairing the piston assembly after a broken plate fragment enters the cylinder. The 0.35 mm thickness is critical: I have seen compressors where during a repair, plates of a different thickness were fitted ‘because they were on hand’ — after 400 hours the pressure dropped again, because the valve simply did not open fully at the required pressure.”

FAQ

Can plates of a different size be used if the correct ones are out of stock? No. A thickness deviation of even 0.05 mm changes the valve opening pressure and the plate’s service life. A deviation in length or width leads to incomplete port sealing or mechanical jamming. Use only plates with the exact dimensions 57×11×0.35 mm.

How many valve plates are needed for one 2080 or 2090 compressor? It depends on the number of cylinders and the valve block configuration. In a typical two-cylinder head — between 4 and 8 plates (2–4 per cylinder for inlet and discharge). Confirm the exact quantity from a photo of your head or the serial number with an Acvatron manager.

How should spare valve plates be stored correctly? In the original packaging or wrapped in oil-impregnated paper, horizontally, with no mechanical loads applied. Plates of 0.35 mm thickness can deform under their own weight when stacked vertically. The optimal storage period is no more than 3 years: valve steel loses its spring properties during prolonged storage under fluctuating temperature and humidity conditions.
